How It All Began
From a Bold Vision to Zambia's Premier Mining Company
Our story is one of vision, perseverance and a deep belief in Africa's boundless mineral wealth. Rooted in the success of our parent group — Vinmart Ltd, founded in Tanzania in 1997 — Somika Commodities Limited was established in Lusaka, Zambia, to extend the group's mineral trading and mining operations into one of Africa's most mineral-rich nations.
Zambia sits at the heart of the Central African Lusaka , one of the world's most significant mineral regions. With proven reserves of copper, cobalt, gold, silver, manganese, coltan and tantalite, Zambia represents an extraordinary opportunity for responsible mineral extraction and global trade. We seized that opportunity.
Drawing on the decades of regional experience built by our sister company, Somika SARLU — the trusted producer of Copper and Cobalt products in the Democratic Republic of Congo — Somika Commodities Limited was born with a clear mandate: to bring internationally competitive mining and trading standards to Zambia while creating lasting value for local communities and global buyers alike.
Today, Somika Commodities Limited operates mine sites, processing facilities and export logistics networks across Zambia, serving buyers in Asia, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. We are proud to be a Zambian company competing on the world stage.
